Help Umoja to fight for the rights of the poor in society
Organized by: Dahabo Orto
Our social movement dubbed umoja, a swahili word meaning United in English, seeks to empower our community to exercise fundamental rights to choose competent, honest, and servant leaders whom we expect to address the most urgent needs of our society like provision of water for households, health care for the poor, access to education for the girl child who are neglected, maternal care for mothers, and peaceful environment for communities to co-exist. At the moment, communities are divided along ethnic lines and exploited by selfish politicians. Our change plan targets Marsabit County, a devolved political jurisdiction located in Northern Kenya. It is instructive to underscore that change initiatives, especially that which is meant to entrench good governance rarely succeeds in the context of our highly unethical political environment where the actions of corrupt networks is in effect as they apply massive resources acquired illegally, to buy votes, influence elections, and deny the poor, opportunity for services from good governance. Under these circumstances, certainly the plight of the common man, who form the bulk of population is completely neglected. People are then left to struggle for survival. Corrupt leaders are indeed the source of all problems in developing world, where transparency and accountability is not an issue for the ruling elite. The ruling class are to blame for all evils ranging from insecurity, acceleration of climate change through poor policies that are unfriendly to environment. Umoja movement is premised on ideals suppporting integrity and commitment of leaders who are ready to serve the people in a just and equitable manner. We believe strongly effective change must start at the top. We need all the support that can be found to make our plans of reaching out to masses possible undertaking. The donations we receive will be used to fund transportation, public address/equipment, security of reform agents, accomodation, and publicity/outdoor media activities for our campaigns. Furthermore, it is part of our agenda to alleviate health concerns and diseases - diabetes and rising cancer ailment is ravaging our poorly governed populace. Every family including mine has been afflicted either by diabetes or blood pressure and related complications. The elders are particularly at great risk from these pandemics. We shall greatly therefore appreciate any support towards this very important Mission. Thank you in advance.
