Help Us Become A Family Again!
Organized by: Barry Burden
My son Amir is a 23 yr. old African American male with Special Needs. Amir has Cerebral Palsy and cannot advocate any desires or needs for himself. I am his only family and advocate for his proper care. Amir was removed from his home and became an award of the state. Since that time, Amir's health has dangerously declined, due to the systemic neglect from the nursing home where he resided for about 4 months and the agency awarded the guardianship. He now has a Stage 4 Bedsore and MRSA, a highly contagious infection. Amir's respiratory health has caused him to be hospitalized 5 times in the last 8 months with Pneumonia. He is clearly not receiving the adequate care he requires. Amir once enjoyed a "Quality of Life" that was marveled by many who knew of his family life with me (his father). We traveled extensively and were very active in community-based events. He enjoyed 14 local and regional trips and 3 vacations (including a cruise) while living at home. Now Amir resides in a nursing home with little to no socialization or excursions out in the community. I am presently embroiled in legal advocacy to become Amir's Guardian and Primary Caregiver again to restore his quality of life again. I just want to be his loving father and provide him with a family to which he has become accustomed. My plea is for support to address the legal expenses required representation by a Article 81 Guardianship Attorney to advocate for the restoration of our family. The expenses for this area of law are staggering for me alone to acquire, we need your help! Please help us meet our goal. Doesn't everyone deserve a family! Thank you!
