Because of one person's neglect to spay their cat, I am now the one taking care of a Momma cat and her three kittens. This is the second litter I know of because I took in her first litter. I began feeding a stray cat and 4 kittens in June 2015, everyday twice a day I would go to my neighbors deck because that's where these kittens were living and feed them fresh food and water daily without any days missed. I would spend a few minutes a day talking to them even though they would run and hide from me. Unfortunately one of them died because it tried to stay warm in my neighbors car. I was devasted. I even gave them names so that they would know that I am not going to harm them. Finally, 4 months later I worked with an agency to spay and neuter them and they eventually made their way into my home and are now three very happy kittens. It took a lot of time and trust to gain their friendship. During this time, the Momma cat to these precious babies ran off and a few months later I spotted her going to a neighbors house for food. Also, during this time my kittens from her first litter where staying in my garage until they trusted me enough to come into my house. So, a couple of months ago I spotted the Momma cat coming from my garage and hiding behind a bag of dirt was another kitten. Come to find out she brought her three kittens to garage. This is now her second litter. Momma know lives in my garage with her second litter. They have a nice kitty house my husband built and plenty of food and water twice a day. We have installed a cat door so they have easy access to the garage and they feel safe. I also bought a kerosene heater to run when the temperatures drop to freezing. I am feeding this Momma and her babies, feeding her first litter that is now in my house and heating the garage. A 5 gallon can of kerosene lasts about 3 days and cost 45.00 at our local hardware store. I am hoping that people can open their hearts and help with the expenses of food and heat for these babies and their Momma. We are just beginning our winter months and last night the temperature dropped to 8 degrees. In the springtime I am trying to work with the same agency to trap and spay and nueter these kittens and Momma so that she does not continue this cycle. All because one person did not take the responsibility of spaying their cat and dumped her on the streets to survive!
