As a way to honor Herbie Hunt, or “HH” as most of the hockey and financial world knew him by, we will host the Herbie Hunt Memorial Hockey Game & Party on Saturday, May 14th from 3-6 PM at the Boch Ice Arena in Dedham, MA. This family-focused event will be a way to raise funds for the Herbert I Hunt III Children’s Trust, which is a trust established in the name of Herb’s children - Haley, Dylan and Casey - to help defray the cost of their education, health and well-being.
As you may or may not know, the Boston Businessman’s Hockey League was started by Herbie Hunt and a few others during the 1983-84 season. The original BBHL lasted until the mid-1990’s, about 12 years in total. After the BBHL wound down, Herbie kept the call option on the ice and ran the time as a pick-up hour for the rest of the 1990’s, so that the guys could still have a place to play and an arena to network in. In 2000, he passed over the torch as he was in the early stages of starting his family with his wife, Linda. Herbie's hope was that the skate would continue with the same ideals as when the Boston Businessman’s Hockey League began...just good guys playing a game they love and using the time to network in the business world. Presently, HH would be proud to know that the "Herb Hunt Boston Businessman’s Hockey League" just wrapped up its 33rd season!
As for the actual event on May 14th, we will be playing a hockey game in memory of HH from 3:00 - 4:15 PM, followed by a party either in the upstairs private room at Boch Ice Arena or under a tent on the lawn (weather dependent). In addition, while the adults are playing on the big ice surface, Boch has also donated the smaller surface for the kids and anyone else who would like to skate and/or play around. Once the memorial hockey game concludes, we will celebrate with fun HH stories, good music, and delicious food & drink. Also, there will be a silent auction table with many great things to bid on.
If you plan to play in the hockey game, the suggested participation fee will be $100. And, even if you don't plan to participate in the actual game, please feel free to make a donation to the Trust.
Lastly, Linda and the kids will be in attendance (in fact, I hear one of them may lace 'em up for the game!), so this will be a great opportunity to share wonderful memories of their beloved husband and dad!
