Jackie's Final Wish Before She Dies
Organized by: Tammy Durkin
What if you were on your own, raising 2 boys and suddenly are told you have 1 year to live?
What would you do?
What would your dying wish be??
Jackie's dying wish is to take her boys on a wonderful vacation. She wants to leave them with one last, and lasting memory of their little family together on a wonderful vacation. Jackie's disability income barely gets her month to month as it is, there is just no way for her to make this happen on her own.
Won't you please help do this for her? For her boys?
Even if it is just $5. Every little bit can add up and make it happen for this family.
Jackie's story... (abbreviated version of course)
In December of 2014, my friend Jackie was having back pain. Not only was it not going away, but over the course of 3 weeks it was intensifying. When it got to the point she could take it any longer, she finally went to the emergency room. In Texas, if you go to the ER for pain, by law they must do a drug test before they will prescribe any pain medication. Apparently there was something concerning that came back in the blood work because they took her for a CT Scan....
Never did she dream that a backache would lead to the words...
You have approximately 12 months to live, it's cancer.
At least 2 of her doctors have made the comment (1 in Texas, and 1 here in Pennsylvania) "I have never seen so much cancer in 1 body before."
Well, as the testing goes, we find out that Jackie has not 1 cancer. Not even 2 types of cancer. She has FIVE, 5 different types of cancer. Devastating!
But not all bad... On the bright side, that meant that her cancer had not spread! It was all different kinds!
Then another shining little glimmer of hope that we had all been praying for....
The tumors were shrinking with the chemo! One doctor commenting "I have NEVER seen chemo work so fast on anyone!"
The 21 tumors on the cervix... GONE!
The lesions on the liver... more than half the size of before!
Breast lump is just tiny now!
And so it the lump in the lymph-nodes!!
YAY!! Let's keep going! This is amazing!!
A few weeks ago, actually I remember the date, because I was pushing the tax deadline and working on my taxes when I got her call, April 14, 2014.
Could barely understand her between the sobbing and the phone cutting out.... But what I heard was devastating to me. Because I am the one that would never let her say she was dying without my immediate words back to her being, "We are going to beat this Jackie!"
Not this time.
While Jackie was in for her chemo appointment that day, the doctor came in with a social worker. Again, hearing the most crushing words of her life... Jackie you need to figure out who you are leaving your children with. And you need to do it this week. They would help her with all the legalities. The doctor explained to Jackie that her Pet Scan had lit up like a Christmas tree. Her bone cancer was all through her body.
The timeline that her doctors had given her in Texas was probably about right.
Jackie IS going to die.
There is NO CURE for bone cancer, not to mention that it is the most painful of cancers.
12 months is not a long time ...
That was in December, it is now May.
Please help send this family on a trip of a lifetime. And in this case, that is exactly what it is, a one and only trip of a lifetime!!
WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
