BENEFITING: THE HERREN PROJECT
ORGANIZER: THE HERREN PROJECT
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
I received an email on February 18th asking me if I was still interested in running the Boston Marathon. I had to read the email again to make sure I was reading it right. I didn't have to think twice about it. Anyone that knows me, knows how much I love running and what it means to me. On April 17th, 2017 I will be running the Boston Marathon with The Herren Project. I can't put into words what this means. Not only to run the Boston Marathon, but I can't think of a better foundation to run with. On April 7th, I will be celebrating 9 years of sobriety. What a way to celebrate! For the past 9 years I have worked very closely with people who struggle with addiction. I know firsthand how hard it is and how hopeless we feel when we are caught up. Sobriety has given me the opportunity to do a lot of things. I went to college and become an addictions counselor at a treatment center that I went through. I started a non-profit called the Up & Out Foundation to help those struggling with addiction and to give back to the community that I took so much from. I also currently work as an outreach worker for our local health department. I work in the parole & probation office that I used to report to. My old probation officers are now my coworkers. Is that odd or is that God? I have received everything I wanted when I got sober and then some. I am overpaid with blessings. Today I am a father, a son, a brother, a friend, I'm employable, I'm a man of my word. None of this would have been possible if it weren't for others who extended their hand to help me up. I was taught to never look down on someone unless I'm helping them up. We do recover. There's a way out. I thank God everyday for people like Chris Herren and others who continue to carry the message, spread hope and share words of wisdom to others who may be struggling with addiction and alcoholism.
PLEASE help me reach my goal of $5,000 that I committed to raising. No donation is too small. This will support The Herren Project's mission.
