Help a refuguee family settle in Chicago this coming year!
Every day we see the barrage of bad news filling our daily news feeds and have been feeling hopeless and small. Recently, with news from Aleppo especially, there hasn't been a day that's gone by when we as parents haven't felt especially grateful for all that we have.
We are done posting hopeless messages on social media and have decided to make an impact on the life of one refugee family. At the very least, our family will look back on this incredible time in history and now that we did our best to do good.
It takes a minimum of $5,000 to help a refuguee family get started in Chicago. Over the next year, HIAS Chicago will be assisting some 45 families relocating to Chicago, and they need our community's help. Our family is paying it forward to the same organization that was here in the 1800's when our own Jewish ancestors escaped persecution and came to Chicago with nothing.
And so this Chanukah, inspired by our commitment to be a light unto the nations, let our Jewish community come together to welcome and support today's refugees arriving in Chicago. Let us shed light for some of the most vulnerable among us and send the important message of: "we're glad you're here."
Dollars raised will enable HIAS Chicago, a program of Jewish Child & Family Services, to support refugee families from West Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe as they resettle and rebuild their lives in Chicago. Specifically, funds will pay for families' first months of rent, furnishings and clothing - all necessities that families arrive in Chicago without.
