THE STORY:

In partnership with Foot 2 Afrika and Path To Africa, The INATOA Project (Inspiring Natural Advancements and Technology for Organic Agriculture) will work at two rural farms and a children's center in Moshi to support organic farming techniques and construct a solar dryer for each site. The project volunteers, Kim and Jamie, will train the farmers how to implement solar drying techniques, raise awareness among the community on the benefits of micro-nutrition, and work with a local women’s business group to discuss market access for food dryers.

An estimated 50 to 60% of fruits harvested in Tanzania is wasted each year through transportation or rot while waiting to be sold, while an alarming 65% of children under five live with iron deficiency. Drying is an excellent way to preserve food for year-round consumption and solar food dryers are an appropriate food preservation technology for a sustainable world. Every farm should have a solar dryer.

Although it will just be the two of us doing the direct work in Tanzania, we will be doing so on the generosity and goodwill of all of our supporters; in this way, this project is a global effort to increase understanding of hidden hunger. And to put a stop to it!

Give what you can. Even $5 will cover our costs for an entire day. Here are a few suggestions:

$280 covers accommodation for one volunteer
$100 provides full construction of one solar dryer
$50 covers local travel for a week
$20 provides food preservation materials (bottles, etc.) for one farm

For further information and details on the project, please contact Kim or Jamie.
