High school teacher needs help: Kidney Transplantation Surg
Organized by: Sharon Cao
Raising money for my high school teacher Fenxia Wang: I met Fenxia during my high school in China. Her husband, Yunzheng Zhang is a current public high school English teacher. They have a 17-year old son. This couple has contributed most of their life to the education system until some misfortune happened recently. At the beginning of 2016, after suffering from a serious physical discomfort repeatedly, Fenxia was diagnosed with Stage 5 of Chronic Kidney Disease, along with Hypothyroidism. The family went to different hospitals for all kinds of examination to confirm the diagnosis. After consulted different specialists for a cure, they all came to the same conclusion: Fenxia needs a Kidney Transplantation. In China, insurance doesn't cover any of these costs. The cost of the kidney transplantation treatment is $120,000, which covers: Transplanted Kidney Surgery, Hospital bed, Nursing, Medication, Radiation, and check ups. Due to the serious sickness, Fenxia quit her job from high school. Her husband has then became the sole income source for the entire family. As a public high school teacher in China, his annual salary is around 60,000 RMB (about $10,000 USD), which makes their situation dire. Although life gets tough with all these unfortunate turn of events, this family will stay strong, full of hope and inspiration, and they won't stop fighting the disease.
