BENEFITING: Friends of the Congo
EVENT DATE: Jun 11, 2016
You are invited to join the 6th annual Hike for Congo! This is the first year the event is in Los Angeles.
Hike for Congo 2016 is June 11! We will hike together along the coast in Malibu and fundraise for our Congo Connect partners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Hikers are encouraged to fundraise for the cause or make a donation. Hike for Congo is a fundraiser for Youth for a New Society, a coalition of youth peace groups in D.R. Congo, and the #Telema peace movement.
D. R. Congo has been in conflict for over 15 years -over 6 million people have died- and the conflict is ongoing. Telema means “Stand Up” in Lingala, a Congolese language. #Telema aims to support, develop and sustain an organized popular movement in the Congo for peace, justice and human dignity. http://www.telema.org/
We will be hiking 3-5 miles - the Solstice Canyon loop with Rising Sun trail - in Malibu.
