Why Hike 4 Heroes?
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the men and women who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The Board of Director’s for Bo’s Blessings saw it as an opportunity to go one step further. A decision was made to launch an event that not only brought a new way to honor and pay respect to our deceased Veterans, but also a way to shed light on the needs of, and pay respect to and honor to our current Veteran residents at the local VA Home as well as patients at the VA Hospital.
In order to bring a new level of awareness to the daily plight and struggles of our Veteran’s, Hike 4 Heroes will focus on allowing participants to experience a modified version of a “Military Ruck”, face to face time with distinguished Veteran’s and working as a team to accomplish much for a few.
Many of our Veterans are in need of the very basic items for day to day living. Toothpaste, soap, socks, and underwear are just a few of the items that injured, sick, homeless, and the elderly Veteran needs.
Participants in the Hike will be required as part of the registration to provide some of these items for our Veteran’s. Hikers will proudly pack and deliver all supplies, as well as assist with serving lunch to residents at the VA Home.
A one-mile memorial walk from the hallowed grounds of Fayetteville National Cemetery to the neighboring streets surrounding our Veteran’s final resting place will give time for reflection on the quickly shrinking land available for the final resting place for our deceased veteran’s.
Upon returning to the FNC, the Hike participants will be encouraged to provide stories of valor for Veteran’s at rest in our cemetery.
Bo’s Blessings LUTHAB, Inc. hopes to use this time together to further the education of our community to the true meaning of Memorial Day. Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day; Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. Military Veterans Hike 4 Heroes will allow us to come together as a unified group that recognizes the needs of our Veteran’s in their daily life and work in some small way to make a BIG difference.
All hikers must raise a minimum of $100.00 to participate. All walkers must raise a minimum of $25.00 to participate.
There will also be a Poker Run hosted by the CVMA 7-2 with all proceeds going to Bo’s Blessings – LUTHAB, Inc.
