BENEFITING: Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity
EVENT DATE: Oct 01, 2011
HOURS PLEDGED: 21
Our Hike for Habitat is on Saturday, October 1st 2011 – Skinner State Park in Hadley, MA
Hikers should check in at the Notch Visitor Center between 9m and 10:30am prior to starting their hike and then make their way to the Summit House via your preferred hike route. Pioneer Valley Habitat volunteers will be at the Summit House with water, snacks, and participant gifts up until 3pm. You can choose to take an easy trail or a more challenging one – either way you will enjoy the beauty of the Mt. Holyoke Range and the view from the Summit House, all while raising money for a great cause!
There is no registration fee for this event but we are asking that each hiker commit to a $50 fundraising minimum. This is easy, I promise!
- Donate $10 yourself - It is always easier to get others to support you if you donate to your cause first!
- Ask 2 co-workers or fellow students for $5 each
- Ask 2 of your friends for $5 each
- Ask 2 family members for $5 each
- Ask 2 neighbors for $5 each
And before you know it, just like that, by asking only 8 people you have at least $50 - EASY! Imagine what might happen if you asked folks for $10 or $25
Please send an email to resource@pioneervalleyhabitat to let us know you are hiking - include your name, address, and phone number so we can contact you with any official hike details.
We selected October 1st because of the date's proximity to World Habitat Day. The United Nations has designated the first Monday in October as annual World Habitat Day. The purpose of World Habitat Day is to call attention to the global state of the human habitat, to push toward adequate housing for all, to dismantle and alter the systems that reinforce and entrench poverty housing, and to make an affordable, decent place to live a reality for all.
We are encouraging our hikers to spread the word about the work that Pioneer Valley Habitat does and to seek sponsors who are willing to make a financial pledge to support their hike and our mission of making homeownership possible to low-wage earning families in Hampshire and Franklin Counties.
