I served in the US Navy for 7/12 years, four years active duty and three and a half years as an active reservist. During my active duty time I was attached to USS Kitty Hawk (cv-63) forward deployed to Yokosuka Japan. After military life I worked as a Veteran Support Specialist at Central Arizona Shelter Services, I then moved on to work as a crisis transitional Navigator with EMPCAT SPC and I recently obtained employment with the Homeless Management Information System as a Program Specialist. I am actively involved in the LGBTQ veteran community serving as present for “American Veterans for Equal Rights” Phoenix Chapter. Transition out of military life for me has had its ups and down but I have found amazing support systems her in phoenix that have made it easier.
I enjoy spending my time listening to music and reading, leaving the city to seek new adventures and Hiking. I am walking to support my brothers and sisters that have lost the battle due to Suicide and those who are currently fighting the battle. I myself am a survivor of two attempts and I want those who are contemplating to know there are people out there that know what it feels like to “be alone” and that they are in fact not alone. We have lost too many Veterans to a completely preventable problem. Even one lost to suicide is too many.
