So about me. I love running, and I LOVE the Falmouth Road Race. Being able to raise money, and run for such an inspring group of people, such as those at Spaulding is going to make this experience even more rewarding, and I didn't think that was possible! I have run falmouth a few times, and this year my goal will be to break 1hr. Last year was my closest at 1hr 2mins, and crazy enough I was sick with relentless coughing, runny nose, congestion, you name it... so this year I have no excuses! Like many people, I run to clear my mind and to challenge my body and my determination. Staying fit is just a side effect :-P. I have run a bunch of half marathons, 5ks, 10ks and my first full marathon last year in Falmouth. It's not always easy, and there's not always time for it, but I would be miserable without it. I'm extremely lucky to have a husband that shares my same passion, and most of my favorite runs are when we get the time to run together. He is my rock, and we keep each other on track with our goals. I work full time as an engineer in Foxboro, sometimes not getting home until 730 or 8, and then traveling quite a bit, so I have to be creative with my training and staying on track. 430am wake up calls 3 times a week, working out in a cramped hotel fitness center, waking up at 4am and running 15 miles on a treadmill so I wouldn't miss a long run (yup... that was interesting!), but it all ends up being worth it.
I started running when I moved back up to the Cape from PA 6 years ago. A month before I moved back up my father asked if my Husband and I wanted to do the Michael Aselton 5k in Hyannis. A 5k?? 5 Miles!? I was happier (not HAPPY) that it was only 3.1 miles. Before this point I think the farthest I had run was maybe 2 miles. My husband had a leg up on me and had always been into running, and we were both very athletic. I was a cheerleader since 6th grade all the way through my senior year in college (Go PSU!) and was already in the gym 4-5 days a week, the transition to mainly cardio from mainly weight wasn't easy, but I figured out a happy medium and have never looked back.
I love being able to just throw on some sneakers and get out and run, and I love how it's become a family get together with My Husband and I, my Dad, my sister, and even my nephew. It makes me happy, it keeps me sane, and I just love it.
I hope my rambling wasn't too much, and encourages you to help me meet my goal (which is over the minimum amount) of $1500! THANK YOU! See you at the finish line ;-)
