Hillside Health Care International (HHCI) was established in 2000 after a feasilibity team from the Jericho Road Foundation International concluded that the Toledo District of Belize was in serious need of medical assistance. Since then, HHCI has provided world-class health services to underserved communities in the Toledo District in southern Belize. Medical care is provided daily by physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, visiting medical and health professional students and staff from Belize and abroad. Hillside sees over 8,000 patient visits yearly. Care is delivered at the Hillside outpatient clinic site, through home visits, and by mobile teams that service remote villages.
In addition to daily medical services, HHCI provides an exceptional medical education program in which students from varying health professions come to learn hands-on and multidisciplinary skills in a culturally diverse and resource-challenged, international setting. While serving those in need, health professional volunteers develop their professional and clinical skills exponentially during their time of service at HHCI. Furthermore, HHCI's scholarship fund program provides for educational opportunities for local Belizeans who wish to attend University and/or Graduate Medical Programs. HHCI is invested in educating and providing leadership opportunities to the local Belizean community through community outreach and staff training and mentorship programs. Due to our abundance of medical, professional, cutural, and service learning opportunities, HHCI lives it's motto daily: Learning while Serving.
