This Giving Tuesday, help HIPS commemorate our 20th year of service by bolstering our Crisis Response Team (CRT). The CRT is called to action when a HIPS client experiences violence and needs support in seeking safe housing, transportation stipends, medical care, counseling and legal services. Did you know that HIPS isn't always able to disperse our CRT due to limited funds? Funding all of our crisis services, both CRT and our 24/7 national hotline, is something that we would not be able to do without your amazing support.
Our goal is to raise $6,000 on Tuesday, December 3.
HIPS Crisis Intervention Services will help to increase women’s capacity to cope with and heal from the aftermath of episodes of violence by providing counseling and follow up assistance in dealing with other social service agencies, law enforcement, and medical personnel.
HIPS Crisis Intervention Services’ target population consists of low income women and transgender women of color (predominantly African American and some Latina), a portion of whom are regularly engaged in sex work and/or drug use.
With proper aid and assistance there is great potential for positive transformation among the vulnerable populations served by HIPS Crisis Intervention Services. Despite many of the unique and traumatic life challenges these women face, however, are valued members of the community who have the capability to thrive and to contribute when given support and assistance. Women and Trans women with a history of accessing our services well connected to public health, housing, and GLBT rights community-based resources. Many former HIPS clients work with our organization as outreach volunteers and peer health educators. Former clients and peer educators currently hold jobs at least 10 social service agencies across the city. HIPS success in helping individuals on the streets change their lives proves the importance of low barrier, culturally appropriate services that meet people “where they are at”.
