THE STORY:

Looking for ways to learn with your child but don’t know where to start?

You’re not alone.  At the Hunter Museum, we hear from parents, young adults, teens and seniors who express similar challenges.  Each love the experience of visiting the museum but wish they had more options for engaging the whole family.

We thought, what do kids love? Videos. Games. Screens. So, why not bring technology into the galleries? This would be a first for us. To coordinate with the our highly anticipated exhibit, Monet and American Impressionism, our curators and educators will work with software designers to create innovative apps to help young audiences connect with history, create avenues for creativity, and increase both visual and digital literacy with screens we will place throughout the galleries.

Want to know more?

This proposed tablet learning project would offer apps for kids to explore the Impressionist’s innovative painting techniques, as well as the changing technology of paint that allowed for the Impressionists to paint outdoors.  On these tablets, young guests could also explore the social history of the era, learn more about the 25 featured artists, enjoy music, fashion and other popular culture of the period and place the artworks within interactive timelines.

Adults will be engaged, too, by explorations into turn of the century global cultural trade, as well as the related relationships with industrialization, public health and gender roles. These tablet stations would allow for intergenerational learning for everyone from our pre-schoolers through our adult visitors. And once the exhibition has closed, these tablets would be re-installed in the Museum’s Impressionism galleries, taking the late nineteenth century into the 21st.

We know you want to give.
