HML Band Instrument Repair Drive
Organized by: Rosio Acin
This fundraiser is to help us raise enough money to be able to repair our old musical instruments. We are an amazing, award winning program located at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School in Hialeah, Florida. This previous year alone, we won 1st place in our class in 2 local competitions and 15th place in the whole state of Florida. It is a truly marvelous feat that these young, hard-working students have earned. However, these students face a truly difficult dilemma. Not only are they asked to be hard working and focused at all times, they must also be creative, for the instruments that the program uses are in very poor condition and the students are forced to search for ways to make the instruments that they use "playable". Whether it be using electrical tape and paper to cover a hole in the metal, or using rubber bands to keep a part in place, our instruments are in no way near plausible quality, and it is an obstacle that no program should ever have to face. These students care for these instruments as if it were their own, but a mix of wear and tear from normal use and mistreatment of the instrument from past years (20+) have truly damaged a lot of these instruments beyond repair, which seriously affects its playability. Our program is growing every year but we are limited, as we do not have enough instruments that work properly to supply the students with. We ask that you help us give these students the ability to play on an instrument not held together by rubber bands, tape, and glue. All donations will be used to repair the instruments and also purchase parts for those instruments which have been forced to retire due to the state of deterioration they are in.
