The Story

Joe Piskula is the current captain of the San Diego Gulls, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL Anaheim Ducks.  Dom Hilger, a close friend and youth hockey coach of Joe’s from his hometown of Antigo, Wisconsin was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. Dom, a father of three, has since undergone extensive brain surgery and many rounds of chemotherapy and radiation to rid his body of the horrible disease.

The San Diego Gulls, City of Hope and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Neurology Department have combined efforts to raise awareness of brain cancer through an event called Hockey for Hope, a special fundraising event to take place Saturday, April 2 when the San Diego Gulls take on the San Jose Barracudas.  Joe and the Gulls have personally invited the Hilger family to be honored and to take part in this meaningful event.

All proceeds will be split evenly between City of Hope’s brain cancer research programs and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Neurosurgery Tumor Research and Education Fund.
