Hoggard Baseball Field of Dreams
Organized by: Hoggard Baseball
Dreams can come true.
In the past five years alone, the Hoggard High School Vikings have won three Mideastern Conference titles and one conference tournament title – the best among county schools. In contrast, the team’s hazardous playing facilities are the worst in the county -- and the conference.
Join the Hoggard Baseball Family's Fields of Dreams campaign and honor head coach Jeep St. Ledger's 35 successful years with the program by giving his teams a home they can be proud of.
The facility's substandard environment includes a backstop at 20 feet -- well below below the most basic of high school standards (60 feet) and worse than some little league fields. The concession stand and pressbox, constructed nearly 40 years ago, are not up to code. The open dugouts are a safety risk for the ball players. The bullpens are a hazard.
The players deserve better. The coaches deserve better. The field's namesake, E.A. "Spike" Corbin (1913-2003), deserves better. The school system has not made it better. It's time we did.
The coaches’ dreams:
§ Deepen backstop to high school standards.
§ Reconstruct building that houses concessions, bathrooms and pressbox.
§ Install screens in front of the dugouts to protect the players.
§ Replace seating areas with handicap-accessible raised bleachers.
§ Create safety warning track around the field.
§ Create a safer, better-quality running and fielding environment for the players.
The Vikings are a longtime Mideastern Conference powerhouse. Your donation will help us make their home a powerhouse as well.
