*The Spirit Of The Flame At Camp Sunshine*
The wishboat ceremony is part of a camp tradition that brings everyone together (families, counselors and staff). The children who have been to camp before and/or if it's their first time, receive a boat at Arts and Crafts. They are made out of wood with a little hole in it to put their candle in. They decorate it by being as creative/artistic as they can be. It becomes a very special piece, that they are proud of and look forward to the ceremony for all to see.
As everyone gathers on the final night of the week, they prepare to engage in an emotional moment, that will make you realize how important family, friends, life and the strength of prayers can truly be. The Camp Sunshine song is played in the background, the parents and counselors help to create that magic moment by lighting the flame of the candle on the child's boat. You begin to see an array of wishboats glistening in the water, as the children are holding onto the string that is attached to their boat, it's a sight to see. The atmosphere becomes magical and you don't want it to end...
The song ends and 1,2,3...the children close their eyes, make a wish and blow out the candle. You feel a spiritual rush through your body, tears are flowing, you see smiles and hear laughter from the children and their families and you know deep down those wishes were granted.
Please help me donate and reach my goal of $2500.00 to send a family to camp of no cost...the greatest gift of all.
