Teens for Food Justice wrote -

Sixteen percent of New Yorkers are food insecure and malnourished, and an alarming one in four NYC children live in food insecure households. Addressing the lack of access in some communities to fresh and nutritious food is critically important, and that’s been the imperative of Teens for Food Justice for over four years.

Your donation today will help us launch the build of three hydroponic farms, which, together, will grow over 60,000 pounds of nutritious, hyper locally grown produce to serve more than 5,000 students in these school cafeterias:

  • MLK Educational Campus, Manhattan,
  • De Witt Clinton High School, The Bronx
  • The Urban Assembly Institute of Math and Science, Brooklyn
  • PS 56, Brooklyn
  • PS 3, Brooklyn

The hydroponic farms are built and managed by students theselves. They serve as sources of fresh food, hubs for STEM education, and skill building centers for green jobs. Through our afterschool program, students become leaders and advocates for improved community health and access to nutritious produce for all New Yorkers.

Your donation gives at-risk teens the opportunity to grow thousands of pounds of produce annually for their neighborhoods and become ambassadors for the nutritional lifestyle skills that combat food insecurity and its negative impacts on health.

Thank you for empowering the next generation of youth food justice activists and leaders. Here's how your support makes a difference:

$100 supports the purchase of supplies needed by students for a cooking demo that introduces 100 community members to affordable healthy meals they’ve crafted using produce from their farm.

$500 sustains one full month of crops, providing seeds and essential supplies to grow over 2000 pounds of produce.

$1500 supports a year-long apprenticeship for five young-adult mentors who guide teens through our youth leadership program.

$5000 provides one school community with a year of life-changing community health and wellness outreach events led by Teens for Food Justice students.

$8000 supports the procurement of one vertical growing system that produces at least 100 pounds of produce per month.
