EVENT DATE: Dec 01, 2012
HOURS PLEDGED: 10
On Sept. 15th, I took a trip that changed my life. I visited the Casa Hogar Sion Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. This is one of 14 orphanages in Baja, Mexico that "Corazon de Vida" (Heart of Life) supports through the generosity of others. I can say I am truly blessed to have found this group. And my intention is to continue to GIVE back in any way I can.
December 1st, I will be returning to a different orphanage with friends and volunteers. This time to help celebrate the holidays with the children! Your donation is 100% tax deductible. It will help provide the children with basic necessities (food, shelter, clothes), medical needs, and Education (tuition, books and uniforms).
Upon arriving in Tijuana, I was greeted with hugs and a smile by almost all of the 80 children that this one orphanage supports, houses, provides a safe and nurturing environment for. We laughed, played, made arts and crafts and cute little friendship bracelets together. We all sat and had pizza and fruit (a special treat for the kids) and then they showed me around their home. It was special for them. I had never been to an orphanage before and I didn't know what to expect. It was so clean. These beautiful children do not have much in terms of material possessions; they have clothes that they all share, their school uniforms and their blanket/pillow. And they had their SMILES! Many of them will age out of the orphanage at 18; most will not be adopted (usually if they aren't adopted by age 3, they will not have the opportunity to be raised in a family). So they create their own. They look out for each other. They do really well in school and most of them want to go to college so they return to help out others. One of the former children is now in his 2nd year of Medical School!!! Corazon de Vida has made all of this possible. They have been supporting these orphanages for 18 years.
For more information about this amazing organization please go to www.corazondevida.org. The founder Hilda Pacheco-Taylor was raised in the orphanage that I will be going to on December 1st. On my first bus ride down on Sept. 15th, I had the privilege of speaking to Hilda as she drove down with us. I am excited to see where she grew up and to give back to the place that made her the very special and beautiful soul she is today.
I encourage you to donate to my fundraising page so Corazon de Vida will be able to use the funds as necessary. However if you prefer, I will be bring stuff with me on the 1st. They are in much need of NEW socks (boys/girls), NEW underwear (boys/girls), cleaning supplies, diapers, shampoo/conditioner, toilet paper, etc. Nothing is too big or small. Clothing is not needed at this time. If you'd like to donate "items" let me know and I will make arrangements.
And if you live in Southern California, please consider taking the trip with me. There are still spots available. I'm on BUS #4 on the event page.
It's the holidays... time to reside in THE SPIRIT OF GIVING.
