GMF is dedicated to the advancement of African communities by providing educational opportunities to young girls, ages 5 to 18. Their vision is to mobilize the resources necessary to overcome the insurmountable obstacles a young girl faces in obtaining an education in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The GMF School in Kalebuka, DRC opened its doors in September 2011 to 104 girls enrolling in kindergarten and first primary school. The vision of the school is to eliminate the barriers that prevent so many girls from exercising their right to a quality education, and sustaining a productive environment for young women to develop the skills and potential to become the leaders of the next generation.
SPORTS FOR AFRICA
A healthy mind and body are critical factors in a child's development. I have decided to partner with GMF to build a fitness program for this group of young girls. Fitness is a channel for not only physical well being, but also a means to install enthusiasm and confidence. I plan to visit the school to lead the development of a sports and fitness program. During this time, I will also meet with the girls to motivate and educate them, providing the foundation for a healthy future.
Your contribution is essential in helping me complete this endeavour. Proceeds will cover transportation to The Congo, sports equipment for the school, salary of a physical education teacher, and sports clothing for the girls. No contribution is too small. Even the smallest donations will make a significant impact of the lives of these girls.
Sports for Africais an initiative to introduce a holistic and multi-disciplinary physical education program into the curriculum at the Georges Malaika Foundation’s School for Girls. The curriculum will integrate into the existing class schedule, each class will have 2 PE sessions per week (total of 12 sessions per week) which will be taught by a locally-hired individual who will be trained by experts in the field.
