Hillel Foundation at the University of Arizona wrote -"I tell my story so that it won't become your future" -Leslie Meisels- Holocaust survivor A large book is placed on a podium in the center stage of the UA Mall. At noon, the first of 6 million names listed in the book is read. On Wednesday, March 22 at 10:00 am through Thursday, March 23 at 10:00 am, the UA Hillel will host the 26th Annual Holocaust Vigil. This 24-hour student-led program is dedicated to the remembrance of the Holocaust and its victims. The goal of this event is to increase knowledge of the Holocaust, to bear witness and to ensure that it will never happen again. Numerous displays will be erected on the Mall depicting various aspects of the Holocaust. Students and community members are invited to participate in the reading of names and the painting of a ceramic butterfly, each commemorating the life of a child murdered during the Holocaust. As part of the Butterfly Project, Zikaron V’Tikvah- Remembrance and Hope-the butterflies will be added to the display in the front of the Hillel building.
