Hombre- VCU Medical Outreach Mission
Organized by: Kat Hayes
EVENT DATE Jun 20, 2016
Honduras Outreach Medical Brigada Relief (Hombre) is a collaboration within VCU MCV campus to deliver medical services and healthcare education to Pinares, a rural area within Honduras. As a second year physical therapy student, I will be working within an interdisciplinary team at local clinics to serve the local community and improve quality of life. During the service project, one of my goals is to become a more experienced within my field. I also hope to learn from my teammates as they bring their own unique skills and knowledge to the team. While traveling abroad, I hope to understand the different health care challenges faced by the host community while addressing their problems to the best of my ability. I also hope to gain an understanding of a new culture by becoming immersed within that country’s daily life.
The trip takes place June 20th -- July 3rd and we are expecting to see about 300 patients within the clinic and another 350 through Children's Health Initiative (CHI).
Donations will go toward transportation, housing, meals, travel expenses, and medical supplies.
