Meet my mom Talli and my brother Miguel, both of which are disabled. Mom has severe health issues with her pancreas and digestive track as well as bipolar mental disorder. Miguel has been diagnosed as intellectually delayed. He is in special needs classes at school and at the age of 17 is on a second grade reading level. He loves SpongeBob Squarepants and Power Rangers even at his age. Recently, his psychologist has recommended he be tested for autism which is going to happen in August. My mom has been concerned about what will happen to Miguel once she passes. She is 53 and in constant pain due to her waffled pancreas. Our goal is to get Talli and Miguel into their own home with as low a monthly payment as possible and to have Miguel in very close proximity to other family members in case they need to care for him in an emergency with Talli. Some members of our family have kicked it into gear to help them as much as possible. We’re not a rich bunch but we are loving and generous with what we do have. My aunt Val has given Talli and Miguel the land on her property to build a house and designed the plans for building a modest home. My uncle Josh has kicked in his life savings to the tune of $50,000 to build the house. Josh along with my other uncle Gary are building the home doing as much of the work as they can themselves. Gary has been a contractor for many years and the left over building materials he has saved from previous projects have truly come in handy and saved a lot of money for this home. In addition to all of this Val, Josh, and Gary have worked very diligently to find as many materials at salvage, auction, and on sale as possible. This is what they got for the $50,000: Building Permits, Excavation, Grading and Tree Removal, Septic System, Hook up to existing well, Footers, Foundation, Block work, Concrete Pad, J Drain at Foundation, Waterproofing, Exterior Foam Insulation, Termite Treatment, Roof Trusses, Roof Shingles, Installed Roofing, All Framing Materials, House Wrap, Windows, Preliminary Electrical wiring, Preliminary Plumbing Stub-ups, Tile for the Kitchen and Bath, Bathtubs and Faucets, All Lighting, Whole House Fan, Engineered Flooring for Living Room and Dining Room, Exterior Siding, Paint for Interior Walls, Washer/Dryer, Range, Refrigerator, Microwave , and there’s probably more that they have forgotten to mention. They have done an amazing job to bring this home to the point that it is today for the $$ they had to spend but are finding they are short the necessary dollars to finish the project. They stretched the money so tight that Ben Franklin has finally screamed uncle. This is where you can help. We need the following to finish up this home for my mom and Miguel: $ 850. Finish Grading $ 250. Gravel for Drive $ 4,200. Drywall $ 3,000. Plumbing Completion $ 2,850. Electrical Completion $ 1,550. Insulation $ 1,250. 2 In Wall Heat Pumps $ 1,300. Wood Burning Stove $ 320. Triple Wall Chimney for Stove $ 400. Flexduct $ 175. FanTec InLine Fan $ 500. Batten and Trim for Exterior Mat’l $ 250. Front Porch Framing and Flooring Mat’l $250. $ 750. 10 Gallons Paint for Exterior $ 550. Interior Trim Mat’l $ 375. Electric Water Heater $ 950. Interior Doors and Hardware $ 1,850. Kitchen Cabinets and Countertops $ 350. Kitchen Sink and Faucet $ 375. Bathroom Vanity and Toilet $22,320 Total This project was started on a wing and a prayer to help my mom and brother. We are so close but still so far from providing a home for them. When this is finally completed, Talli will breathe a lot easier that Miguel will be close to family who loves him dearly and that he will taken care of long after she is gone. Thank you for any help you can provide.
