Home Away Boston leases and operates apartments for the purpose of providing “homes-away-from-home” to families with critically ill children while they are undergoing treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital. Families travel from all over the world to receive treatment at MGH, often leaving behind family and friends to seek out the medical care which they feel will give their child the best chance at survival. When families make the decision to travel for medical care, they must find solutions to three major questions:
Where will we find a comfortable, family-friendly place to stay?
How will we afford this place for six weeks or longer?
Who will help us to find our way around this new, strange city?
Home Away Boston successfully answers each of these questions by providing private, one-bedroom apartments in the peaceful Charlestown Navy Yard neighborhood. Not only do we give families a comfortable, family-friendly place to stay, but we also ensure the apartments are fully stocked with groceries, cleaning supplies, toiletries, linens, housewares, toys, and games prior to the arrival of each guest family. Additionally, we host weekly events in our Community Space to help families make new friends that will help them find their way around the city of Boston.
And the best part is: all of this is provided at no cost to the families who stay with us.
Each apartment costs Home Away Boston roughly $150 per night to lease and operate. This amount includes the cost of rent, utilities, cleaning, cable, wifi, and a telephone, as well as the expenses incurred by keeping the units furnished and stocked with food and games, and the cost of hosting activities for our guests to enjoy together.
Please help us raise $125,000 to ensure that families are given the support they need while their child is receiving the life-saving medical care they deserve.
