THE STORY:

Hi!  Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

The two wonderful ladies you see in the pictures are very special to me, Meaghan and her Mom, Judi.  Last Spring Judi was diagnosed with brain cancer and to date, continues with her friends and family, to fight this disease with everything she has.

Anyone who has experienced first hand a loved one going though this fight, knows the helpless feeling it presents and the need to fight back in any way possible.  With that in mind, Meaghan and I have joined the Home Away Boston marathon team and on April 18th, will lace up and run 26.2 for this amazing organization.

To describe Home Away simply, I'll share the first words you see when visiting their website:

*When the parents of a critically ill child are told to leave home and seek medical treatment in Boston, the first question they ask is "Where will we stay?" and often the second question is "How will we afford this?"*

This is where Home Away Boston steps in and provides housing to the families of these kids while they're receiving treatment at Mass General Hospital.

True to form, Judi thought of children first, so that is where we chose to focus our fund raising efforts.

Running 26.2 is nothing compared to the battle Judi and the families Home Away Boston supports, face.  Any contribution you can make, is greatly appreciated.

We all thank you for your support!

Home Away Boston leases and operates apartments for the purpose of providing “homes-away-from-home” to families with critically ill children while they are undergoing treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital. Families travel from all over the world to receive treatment at MGH, often leaving behind family and friends to seek out the medical care which they feel will give their child the best chance at survival. When families make the decision to travel for medical care, they must find solutions to three major questions:

Where will we find a comfortable, family-friendly place to stay?

How will we afford this place for six weeks or longer?

Who will help us to find our way around this new, strange city?

Home Away Boston successfully answers each of these questions by providing private, one-bedroom apartments in the peaceful Charlestown Navy Yard neighborhood. Not only do we give families a comfortable, family-friendly place to stay, but we also ensure the apartments are fully stocked with groceries, cleaning supplies, toiletries, linens, housewares, toys, and games prior to the arrival of each guest family. Additionally, we host weekly events in our Community Space to help families make new friends that will help them find their way around the city of Boston.

And the best part is: all of this is provided at no cost to the families who stay with us.

Each apartment costs Home Away Boston roughly $150 per night to lease and operate. This amount includes the cost of rent, utilities, cleaning, cable, wifi, and a telephone, as well as the expenses incurred by keeping the units furnished and stocked with food and games, and the cost of hosting activities for our guests to enjoy together.

Please help us raise $75,000 to ensure that families can continue to reveive the support they need while their child is receiving the life-saving medical care they deserve.
