Why Support More Garden-Grown Foods?
Many of the biggest challenges facing the world have their roots in food, whether it's hunger in poor countries, obesity in wealthy ones or climate change all over. Garden-grown foods are the healthiest ones, both for us and for the planet. By encouraging and enabling more people to grow them, we are helping to solve many problems at once. And as an added bonus, homegrown foods taste better too!
What is Kitchen Gardeners International (KGI) and what do you do?
KGI is a Maine-based network of 25,000 people from 100 countries who are growing our own food and helping others to do the same.
- KGI uses new and old media to reach hundreds of thousands of people with our healthy, homegrown message. (link)
- KGI rallies thousands of gardeners from around the world to protect the right to garden in one's own front yard in a number of high profile cases which are setting a precedent for urban gardening and farming cases of the future (link)
- KGI started and ran the successful campaign advocating for a new kitchen garden at the White House, a garden which is now inspiring millions of people around the world to eat and live in a more healthy way. (link)
- KGI partners with and supports small likeminded groups working at the community level via minigrants that allow them to start new kitchen gardens or expand existing ones. (link)
Why should I support KGI?
As a small organization with very little bureaucracy, we spend little time in meetings and little money on frills which means that we can deliver more social change bang for your buck. But as a savvy social investor you shouldn't just take our word for it.
