BENEFITING: FILIPINO COMMUNITY SUPPORT
EVENT DATE: Jun 30, 2011
HOURS PLEDGED: 56
Every summer the League of Filipino Students, an organization in San Francisco State University, has been sending their members to the Philippines to integrate with workers, farmers, women and students to learn about the daily struggles of people. Before the trip, members learn about Philippine history and the issues that Filipinos experience around the world. The purpose of this four week trip is to experience first hand how individuals live in harsh conditions and to apply what they learn into context. Members will eat, work and live like the host family does in a daily basis. This is not a vacation, but an educational and cultural program.
Once the trip is over, members return back to the states and share the stories of the people they met and continue to educate others and be active in progressive organizations that take actions for positive change.
I, along, with five members plan to go to Philippines this summer. However, every year, we have a hard time raising money for air fare and donations that will go towards the communities we visit. Each airline ticket is about $1300 and each community donation is about $150. This is where you can help. Please donate what you can. Your contribution of $5 to $500 can make a huge difference not only in the lives of LFS members, but also the individuals we meet in the Philippines.
Maraming Salamat! Thank you very much. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or want to know other ways to donate.
