THE STORY:

We are seeking assistance for our homeless veteran outreach program that assists homeless veterans to find stable footing within their lives who reside throughout Central Florida. While our non-profit 501(c)3 organization has a strong foundation built upon assisting disabled veterans with their VA benefits entitlements, we utilize our unique skill sets to assist many homeless veterans to transition out of the woods and into permanent housing while assisting them with finding stability within their daily lives. While we use various government programs to assist each homeless veteran to receive any and all entitlements they may be eligible to receive such as VA benefits, Social Security benefits, HUD/VASH, etc. Our foundation goes the extra mile to provide personalized assistance through our all volunteer network to provide each veteran with the vital assistance they need in order to make a successful transition back into mainstream society.
For example: The most recent homeless veteran that we are currently assisting lived outdoors, in the woods continuously here in Kissimmee Florida for over 16 years. While the government provided him with an apartment that came free with electric, for which he was truly grateful, he had absolutely no furniture, and he was unable to get his personal effects to the apartment because it was twenty-two miles away from the woods where he was living, his only mode of transportation is a bicycle. Our volunteers have continually worked with this veteran, since we met him last Thanksgiving at our annual Thanksgiving day Homeless Veterans Feeding, we convinced him to take the apartment, and we will make sure he has everything he needs, including rides. Through our wonderful volunteers and the many business owners in our community, we were able to furnish it, we also filled his cabinets with food. We moved him and his personal effects as well, into his new apartment. We check on him, to remind him that he is not alone, We're here for him. We take him to the woods to visit his friends that still live in the camp, (we are working to get them out of the woods and into housing as well), we cook out every Saturday for them, as well as bring them what they need. Additionally, we have assisted him with information about how to collect the proper documentation to file both his VA and Social Security claims and we escort him to file his claims and with transportation whenever he needs it. Most importantly though we have truly assisted a fellow veteran and made a wonderful friend and volunteer in the process! Our foundation provides these same vital services throughout Central Florida to transition them from the fragile state that we find them in, to a state of stability where they can now not only be successful in their own lives, but they also become advocates for the next homeless veteran. In the past 19 years we were able to successfully get over 300 homeless veterans off the streets. We became a non profit in 2011. We have always self funded, we have been able to do this on a shoestring budget. There are many homeless veterans in Central Florida. We will do the work, we love what we do. We are desperately in need of funding in order to keep our program alive. Please feel free to go to our website and check out the work we do. website: ffohf.org Phone: 407-300-7102
If you know of any veterans that are having service connected issues, please feel free to give them our information. We will be happy to assist. We NEVER charge for any of our services. We rely solely on donations and sponsorship's.
