Twelve years after former President G.W. Bush, signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, many children’s educational futures are still in jeopardy because they continue to demonstrate poor achievement in school. You can help us help children by being an advocate for their success. We need you to help by donating and creating a fundraiser that will help us purchase and then deliver books to children who are left behind—living in homes without books.
Studies reveal that children who learn to read early have a much more promising future and they no longer lag behind academically—they thrive. Children who grow up in homes with books have constant access to knowledge, about different communities, different people, and unique experiences beyond their neighborhoods. When books are in children’s homes and in their hands, they develop reading skills, a love of reading, improved vocabulary skills, better writing skills, and a desire to learn, which becomes more meaningful, enriching, and rewarding as they become older, contributing, and educated members of society. When children have books in their homes, the mere existence of those books creates powerful connections to the outside world—connections that have a positive and enduring impact on them, their families, and our communities at large.
In 2011, the annual Children’s Book Fair and the Abraham Lincoln Neighborhood Development Corporation, a 501c3 organization, partnered to distribute books to children in New York. Since then, we’ve distributed 20,000 culturally diverse children’s books. To continue this necessary work, we need you to help us to make more children and book connections with your donations.
After the first Children’s Book Fair, one father said his 7-year old took his book everywhere and refused to put it down.
Jamila, a vibrant, bright-eyed, 9-year old was among the hundreds of children who attended the 2012 Children's Book Fair. When she arrived at the event, she was on a mission to help her little friend, 4-year old Tracy find books about animals. I wish you could have seen Tracy’s face as she hugged her newly owned books; it was clear that Tracy would treasure those books and that experience with Jamila forever!
The need for books is great! When you team up with other people interested in getting books to children, the goal to help children get books is achievable! I know we can count on you to become part of a national team driven to eradicate an American crisis—children living in homes without books.
Your $25 donation will buy 25 children’s books. That's correct, 25 books for just $25.00!
Our goal is to distribute 10,000 books to children.
When you donate, you simultaneously increase the number of children living with books in their homes and decrease the number of children living in homes without books
Donate Today! To make an even greater impact, become a MAJOR DONOR when you:
