BENEFITING: Leonardas Home of Hope, Inc.
I recently returned from a medical mission trip to Limon, Honduras. While working at the clinic there with several other undergrads and nurse practitioners, I had the opportunity to visit the local orphanage. I immediately fell in love with all the children there. As soon as they saw us walking towards the orphanage they began to run to us with wide smiles and big hugs. I only spent 3 days with these children and they will forever be in my heart. On our last night in Limon, they threw us a going away party. They spent their money to buy balloons and decorate to make the night special for us. They sang and performed traditional dances. They even danced to Justin Beiber (their favorite). The older children wrote letters to each of us. The younger children drew and colored pictures for us. Leaving them that night was SO hard. If I could afford it they would have all been on the plane home with me. But I can't. I can, however, help raise money to build them a new home. A home that is safer, bigger, and cleaner. A home that these amazing, sweet, funny children deserve.
