EVENT DATE: May 31, 2013
Welcome, and thank you for taking a moment to learn about The Patrick Project (Helping Babies Breathe) and Amiga Honduras!
Your donation will help fund training kits and supplies for the Helping Babies Breathe program, as well as free medications and medical equipment for children during our medical mission to Honduras in June 2013.
A bit of backgound information:
Helping Babies Breathe is an initiative organized by the American Academy of Pediatrics in order to address the high rates of infant mortality worldwide. Many, many childbirths all over the world occur in rural and remote areas with limited access to hospitals and no skilled providers present to assist, and if necessary, resuscitate the newborn. HBB provides an opportunity to implement training sessions for the midwives who are generally present during such moments, along with the primary kits filled with the basic essentials for medical care of the newborn. The goal is to train a set of "master trainers", who, in turn, can train other midwives and providers with the necessary skills in the hopes of reducing the high rates of infant mortality by creating a sustainable and enduring program. We (Priya, Majo, and myself, along with neonatologist Dr. Belen Fineza, neonatology nurse practioner Ms. Angelica Brathwaite, and the fabulous Amiga Honduras medical brigade team) will be part of implementing a HBB program in Honduras during our medical mission with Amiga Honduras during the first week of June. We have named this program "the Patrick Project", in order to commemorate Patrick LeBlanc, Jr., the beloved son of our dear friend, colleague, and neonatologist who has dedicated his career to helping countless babies breathe.
AmigaHonduras, headed by Dr. Helen Kornblum and Hra. Raquel Ortez, has organized volunteer medical brigades to serve numerous rural and underserved communities in Honduras for a number of years. They have played an essential role in helping to provide much-needed medical care, medications, supplies, equipment, and untold opportunities to countless individuals and communities. We are looking forward to rejoining them as well as our lovely Honduran friends and colleagues during the June 2013 medical brigade.
Thank you, so very much for your interest! We would be honored and grateful if you would join us in support of our project.
We will be accepting donations until Friday, May 31, 2013.
Thanks again, and all the very best to you!
Priya, Majo, Belen, Angie, and Madhu
