Honoring my parents, my best friends
Organized by: Loren Smith
Hi yall, my name is Loren. I'm here to raise money to replace my father's tombstone. A little back story - I live in a very small, very backwoods rural area. I was abandoned by my biological parents when I was born and i was taking in by my parents. They just happen to be 2 gay men. So we have all had our good share of hate and ignorance thrown our way. But I wouldn't trade them for the world. After 40 years together, Bryan (my mom) died suddenly in 2010 after an Aneurysm in his head burst. We had no idea it was there. Last month, my dad died suddenly from throat cancer. We found out he had in June and he passes in July. He had a beautiful Veterans service and an amazingly beautiful headstone to match my moms. It wasn't even 2 days after the headstone was placed that it was destroyed. Someone had busted it to pieces and even went so far as to burn his flowers and spray paint the word "FAG" on his grave. I go back the next day & the same had been done to my moms. Keep in mind, this is a out in the woods cemetery. No cameras, no gates, and no help in finding out who it was. I suspect it was actually my brother but I have no proof. This community as a whole is very homophobic. So any help I ask for has been immediately shut down. I'm only 23 years old. I've lost my entire family. I do what I can to keep my head above water, but I can't take having my parents final resting place like that. I've sold everything I could to start saving up to replace their headstones and flowers because every single person is worth more than just a hole in the ground. Thank you.
