BENEFITING: POWER FORWARD INTERNATIONAL INC
EVENT DATE: Jul 29, 2016
Through all of the dark times Haiti has faced in the past 6 years since the devastating 2010 earthquake, rays of hope have been extremely important in maintaining a constant desire for a brighter future. One of these ways is through sports. I’ve seen this first-hand in my 3 trips to Haiti with student athletes from Oklahoma.
With the help of PowerForward International, which is a registered 501c3, I am organizing a 2-day basketball event in Port-Au Prince Haiti in July 2016. The event will comprise of a coaches clinic, youth clinic, an elite camp, and an exhibition game. My goal with this trip is to inspire, motivate, and teach people of all ages how basketball can truly change lives.
Statistically-speaking, the majority of kids who grow up playing basketball in Haiti will never earn a college scholarship or play professionally, just like most kids in the United States. But if they grow up learning to play the game the right way from coaches who want to see them succeed both on an off the court, they have the ability to develop into valuable, driven, disciplined assets to the nation of Haiti, whose youth truly is the future.
Your support of this event will directly impact several hundred people, as we aim to improve the lives of those who desperately need it, all through the game of basketball.
