BENEFITING: OPERATION SMILE FOUNDATION INC
Hoops for Smiles makes winners! Our Hoops for Smiles program was created to help educate and develop future leaders about the benefits of giving back to children in need born with facial deformities.
Through athletics, and the sport of basketball in particular, Operation Smile’s global mission - to heal the smiles of children around the world - is further enhanced and strengthened.
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world. A child’s first basket ignites a smile equal in some ways to the first smile of a healed cleft patient. A smile is also a spark that ignites the flame of caring and the imagination of a new and better future.
So join us as we tip off Hoops for Smiles, a part of our international leadership development program, where those who give back are champions!
The lessons we learn on the court: sportsmanship, respect, sharing, compassion, teamwork can be applied off the court as well in our everyday lives. Give the assist, make your team mates better, make the extra pass to get the layup!
Part of becoming a complete person is being physically fit. But just as important is being spiritually aware. Full Circle is a philosophy describing the process we undertake to become a complete or whole person. When we share our generosity we are giving back to others who are less fortunate. When we give to others, even without their knowledge or their ability to say thank you, we become a complete person. Only then have we come Full Circle.
Join Team Smile, our global team of those who love the game of basketball. We are current players, former players, men and women, coaches and fans who realize that basketball is not just a sport, but a vehicle to carry the message of change around the world.
The late Pistol Pete Maravich stated after he retired from the NBA, on why he kept playing basketball and speaking about issues important to him, "Because when I have this ball in my hands, I can help other people". Let us take this message and spirit of helping others and use basketball to change the world, one smile at a time.
