EVENT DATE: Apr 04, 2016
I’ve always had a passion for basketball. I’m not a pro by any means, but I’ve always been fascinated with doing free throws and trick shots.
I’ve also had over 20 years of experience in organizing events, from sports to special occasions. People would say, “You’re good at this, you should start a business?” Like most people, I would always say I’d think about it.
In my 30’s I started thinking about it. In my early 40’s, I started thinking more about it. Several years ago, I made a commitment. But something was missing. I knew I wanted to start a business, but I also wanted to create change and make a difference is someone else’s life. And I wanted to create an annual event where people could use their basketball skills to raise funds for a personal cause or charity.
What if there was a way to use technology to combine my passion for basketball with helping to raise funds for worthwhile causes…..in a fun and easy way? Hoop Week was born.
I believe everything happens for a reason. And everyone has a special gift. As someone advised me years ago, I’m doing the same today. Follow your dream and passion. It’s never too late. And along the way, get advice from people who really care and will support you.
People also say life begins at 40. I’d like to say, “Life begins at 50.”
Join me in making a difference. And don’t just do it for yourself. Do it for others. Do it for a cause.
I wish you all the best,
Rio Simon, Founder
Hoop Week is the first-of-its-kind event that connects everyday athletes and basketball enthusiasts for a weeklong commitment using basic basketball skills towards raising funds for worthwhile causes and charities.
Whether you’re a pro athlete or just a casual fan, our simple program brings together individuals, families and the entire community for a week of fun and good sportsmanship. Raise funds for personal causes, or for the more than 1.5 million charities supported by Hoop Week.
During the week of April 4, 2016, registered participants make a “promise” to exercise by shooting hoops for at least 30 minutes per day for at least five days within the week. You can play pickup games with family and friends. Or you can just do simple basketball skills such as dribbling, passing, layups, free throws, or 3-point shots. There’s no restriction or set schedule. As long as you’re shooting hoops, you’re good to go! Play hoops in your backyard, a nearby park, or the local gym. And we encourage you to use the power of social media to show your commitment, support and skills.
Each registered participant receives:
- Hoop Week T-Shirt and Water Bottle
- Personalized web page to include photos and videos
- Alignment with the most reputable and recognized charities and organizations
Help us reach millions of hoop fans worldwide, while helping those in need.
