Lexi and I are running in support of Mason Merchant. Please help us as we participate in the 2017 Austin Marathon to raise donations for Hope 4 Minds! (We are participating in the 5K.)
Mason was one of my best friends since my family relocated to Boerne, Texas my 6th grade year. We rapidly became close because of his kind and accepting nature. He made moving at such a hard age a breeze. I had found someone I knew I would be able to count on through everything, a true best friend. Our tight bond continued as we went through our last year of elementary school, onto middle school, and then into highschool. Throughout those years, he became very close with my family as well. His overwhelmingly positive outlook and naturally amiable personality made it impossible for him to not leave an impression on anyone he met. He was my best friend, my first love, and most importantly the most beautiful soul I have ever been aquainted with. Mason suffered a serious acquired brain injury in September 2015 at Enchanted Rock from a fall and afterward an obstructed airway. He was in a remote area and so it took a while for help to arrive. Mason and his Mom and family have worked so hard and he has come so far. He is continuing to improve each and every day. He is able to walk, smile and laugh, but he is having to re-learn to speak and communicate all over again. He is currently in a rehab facility in Houston where he is working on speech and cognitive therapy. We are all hoping he will also soon be able to get a new type of stem cell treatment using stem cells from his own bone marrow.
Hope 4 Minds has been instrumental in making connections to help Mason get the treatments and therapies he needs to help him continue to improve. We are so grateful and would appreciate your support and donations so they can continue to help Mason and others!
Hope 4 Minds mission is to foster hope and enrich the lives of children with an acquired brain injury through support and education.
When a child experiences a serious brain injury following an accident, it can be paralyzing for the family. HOPE4MINDS provides guidance, advocacy and financial support for these children and their families.
At the heart of their services is the conviction that the health and well-being of these children can improve over time if they have access to therapeutic services, adaptive equipment and educational materials.
Please make a donation to help bring HOPE to these families!
