Hope for Haley
Organized by: Aron Cabreza
Haley Cabreza, now a 4 year old, vibrant little girl was born with all of her abdominal organs outside of her body. This is called a Giant Omphalocele. The only abdominal organs that were still in her abdomen were her heart and lungs. Haley came home from Children's Hospital of Wisconsin's NICU/PICU at nine months old with what seemed like an army of medical support devices and nursing care. Over the last four years her team of surgeons has worked wonders to begin returning those organs back into her body. She has gone through almost too many surgeries and hospital stays to count. To this day she still has her stomach, liver, and bowel remaining in her Omphalocele to be returned to her abdominal cavity. Haley also has a tracheostomy and ventilator to aide in breathing. In addition to needing breathing assistance, she has also developed a severe oral aversion (extreme sensitivity to anything in her mouth) and so she if fed through a g-tube. These last few years have been a journey, to say the least. And when I was told how much she had accrued in medical debt, I wanted to cry. On top of our existing monthly bills, we didn't know where to begin.
