Hope for Hopey: Help for My Best Friend in the World
Organized by: JORDAN SANTAMARIA
Look at the picture of Hope and I when we were babies. Here I am on the left, sharing my giant lollipop with my best friend. My heart hasn't changed, I still want to share all I have with her, but sadly I don't have much. Which is why I've created this mini-fundraiser.
It was really hard to choose a fundraiser category for this particular fundraiser, considering it has so many complex parts - so if you're reading this, please take into consideration there are many other factors involved as to why Hope needs help and why I'm asking my other friends all over the world for help.
Consider the following: My best friend since birth needs our help! Her name is Hope and needs to get back to New York as soon as possible, for so many reasons, some of which I've listed here: (1) She just found out she has a 14 year old first cousin, Sophia, the daughter of her deceased aunt (her mother's sister). This cousin was adopted by a loving family, after being taken from Hope's aunt who suffered her whole life from drug addiction. Sophia has been trying for some time to find her mother or any other living blood relative and finally found Hope (literally and figuratively). Coming from a family that suffered great loss and trauma, it would be Hope's greatest wish to build a lasting, solid relationship with her cousin Sophia. She feels the best way to do that is to be back home in New York. Sophia lives in the Bronx and Hope can only be close to her by returning to the place she was born. (2) Hope suffers from a plethora of health issues, which over the course of the years have left her destitute and disabled. She worked for years, struggling through it - but eventually had no choice but to stop. Even at the young age of 33, she suffers from severe major depressive disorder and anxiety (including PTSD from 9/11), as well as the physically debilitating effects caused by scoliosis, 4 bulging cervical discs in her spine and nerve damage.
Anyone who knows me knows that if I had the money, I'd give it all to her so she can get all the things done she needs to get done. However, I too am struggling and working hard towards a better future. I believe in Hope and I know that she can rise above all the obstacles being tossed at her life from the past and the present, and I want to help be as much a part of it as possible. Hope is smart, kind, compassionate, nurturing, funny, sweet and overall a great human being. I'm confident that if you contribute to this fund (and mind you, it's not much we're asking for as a total) that you will be changing her life for the better. That's all that I ask. So if you can find it in your heart to help, even with as little as $1 - it would be greatly appreciated. As an incentive, I am offering free gifts for those who donate $10 or more.
