Hope for Robbie

Robbie Lettieri has a rare and severe form of Tourette’s syndrome, a disease that causes the muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily. Tourette’s Syndrome affects every 1 in 100 school age children. Most of these cases can be treated with medication and therapy. Sadly, Robbie’s cannot.

There is no way to tell when 16-year-old Robbie’s episodes will occur, and they can last in excess of an hour. His symptoms are now so severe that there is a real fear that he may seriously injure himself or others. For that reason, Robbie can no longer be left alone. Simple things that teenagers take for granted—throwing a ball, swimming at the beach, even walking the dog around the block—are now out of the question.

Robbie has been hospitalized numerous times. The many doctors and specialists who have treated him call his case one of the worst they have witnessed. Robbie has been treated with medication that carries both high costs and severe side effects: extreme depression, physical and mental exhaustion, personality changes and suicidal tendencies.

The treatments have drained Robbie’s parents, Debbie and Jay, both financially and emotionally. Doctors are now recommending an experimental surgical procedure called Deep Brain Stimulation. The operation costs in excess of $200,000 and is not covered by insurance.

Won’t you please help Robbie and donate whatever you can afford to help pay for this operation and give him a chance at a normal life?
