THE STORY:

Sierra Leone has been one of the countries hardest hit by the Ebola outbreak, with 2849 confirmed cases; 926 deaths.*

However, despite the devastation - there is still HOPE!

Transmission can be prevented with the implementation of a series of preventive and control measures which include infection and prevention control, social mobilization and others tactics.

Talented Young People Everywhere (TYPE) - Sierra Leone is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Sierra Leone who is partnering with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and local health officials to promote sanitation and sensation activities in the community.  The resources and education provided to these children and their families will help reduce the risk of transmitting this disease.

With donations from Hope for Sweet Salone, TYPE Sierra Leone successfully served six amputee communities during the three day government lockdown.

TYPE Sierra next aims to promote nutrition and personal hygiene in isolated districts in Sierra Leone.

Activities will achieve the following:

Support 300 more vulnerable homes in isolated districts like the “War Wounded”, children, women etc with food and food condiments. To minimise hunger and starvation among these 300 vulnerable homes in the isolated districts.
To promote nutrition in 300 homes in the isolated districts in an effort to
reduce psychological trauma during the isolation period.

Outreach will include:

1. Find out on family constrains and coping strategies during the isolation period
2. Food supply to 300 more vulnerable homes
3. Explain the need for prevention and control mechanism to avoid Ebola infection
4. Promote stability and minimise hunger and starvation in 300 households during the isolation period
5. Promote admonishing and psychological cancelling in these homes
6. A household hygiene practices  awareness raising will be conducted

Food Supply Intervention Strategies:

TYPE Sierra Leone will draw an action plan. Key stakeholders like the Paramount Chief, MPs and Chancellors in each Ward will be asked to witness during the food supply. A recording form of key information of each benefiting household will be conducted. A local monitoring structure will be established for proper utilization of food items.

Food Supply Composition:

Food composition is expected to be comprised of any food that will keep these households sustainable and ongoing while in isolation period (Rice, Bulgur, Oil/Palm Oil, Fruits, Juice,) etc.

Target Locations:

Port Loko

Moyamba

Bombali

Kenema

Kailahun
