Hope For The Warriors® recognizes that pursuing athletic goals is a key component of the physical and psychological recovery for service members and the military families. Program work includes the reintroduction of a loved sport or hobby, or the opportunity to gain new skills with the use of adaptive equipment. Through sports and recreation, Hope For The Warriors® builds a community that embraces the warrior athlete, supporting their rehabilitation and mental health.
Hope For The Warriors helps our service members and their families acheive these athletic goals in a variety of ways:
Run For The Warriors® is a unique race dedicated to the men and women wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, their families, and families of the fallen. It is a celebration of their strength and resolve and a promise to continue restoring self, family, and hope. The Run For The Warriors® race series provides wounded service members encouragement and the opportunity to pursue the sport of running, walking, or cycling to assist in their physical and emotional rehabilitation.
Team Hope For The Warriors® provides athletes of all abilities the opportunity to engage the competitive spirit at endurance events. Warrior Team members are provided adaptive equipment and race support to ensure that they are defined by their achievements rather than by their injuries. Community Team members challenge themselves to raise funds for America's heroes, set new athletic goals, or simply support our military. Together, these Team members are united by the goal to improve the rehabilitation of combat wounded service members and military families.
One member Team Hope For The Warriors®, Michael Roesch, is an Air Force combat veteran and has completed multiple races and competitions as part of Team Hope. He and others have served as community team members, and have fundraised for Hope For The Warriors® through multiple Tough Mudders, The 2013 ING NYC Marathon, 2013 Tunnel 2 Towers, Civilian Military Combine, and The Memorial Day 100.
Hope For The Warriors® Outdoor Adventures Program provides adaptive opportunities for wounded heroes to participate in sporting activities in the great outdoors. Service members, who previously embraced an outdoorsman lifestyle, as well as those new to traditional outdoor sports, are introduced to recreational opportunities on the road to recovery.
The mission of Hope For The Warriors® is to enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty. Hope For The Warriors® is dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.
