You did it again!
September 23, 2017
In the early morning hours of Sunday, October 16, 2016, I received a phone call that Meghann, my 24 year-old daughter, had been involved in a car accident and couldn't be found. I was terrified...the fear of the unknown. What happened? Where was she? Was she o.k.? Why couldn't anyone tell me anything? The drive to Columbus seemed to take a lifetime. I think I knew, but didn't want to believe. I yelled, I screamed, I pounded the dash of the truck. I don't remember the drive home.
The car she was in was hit by not one, but TWO drunk drivers (one underage, the other was also under the influence of marijuana). Both from opposite directions. Two separate individuals made the choice to get behind the wheel and endanger everyone around them. Two individuals had no regard for anyone other than themselves. Two individuals ended Meghann's dream of becoming a bride the very next week. Ended the dream she had of teaching, making a difference in young lives. She had just completed her Masters degree and begun her second year as a reading teacher. Why didn't she get a choice??
The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking. MADD works to strengthen existing laws and pass new ones, provides advocates who offer emotional support to victims and survivors, ensures that justice is being served by monitoring DUI cases...the list goes on and on. I have benefited from many of these services myself.
Please support me as I join thousands of others in the 2017 Walk Like Madd event on September 30. We walk to honor and remember those we love who have been taken or impacted by this senseless crime. The money raised provides programs and services at no cost to victims and survivors. Help me honor and remember Meghann. All donations go directly to MADD.
