THE STORY:

This year Hope Shines' end-of-year Giving Tuesday campaign is dedicated to raising funds for our AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM. Our goal is for the kids to spend four afternoons a week at our learning center engaged in the English, Analytical Sciences & Life Skills curriculum developed entirely by volunteer, education experts for Hope Shines. Right now we're able to offer the kids 1-2 days a week, starting with traditional Rwandan dance taught by community volunteers, and beginning Nov 28, the first month of English. We also provide healthy snacks, clean water, school supplies, and other basic needs to all of our kids at the learning center.

Hope Shines is a streamlined organization that leverages our donor contributions with international partners like SolesforSouls which donates shoes for our kids each year, and local Rwandan organizations - like the bakery that provides the after school fortified bread snacks - that support many of these same families in need. ** Hope Shines also just received the Gold Seal of Transparency by GuideStar - one of the leading organizations that rates the financial transparency of charities worldwide. We use our money wisely!!

And finally - Do After School Programs make a difference? This little bit of extra love and hope makes a world of difference to the vulnerable children participating in Hope Shines programs - extra nutrition, help with school work, hands-on learning, and much more. To prove that point, in 2008 the Harvard Family Research Project (HFRP) reviewed 10+ years of research on this topic and concluded that "..youth who participate in after school programs can reap a host of positive benefits in a number of interrelated outcome areas—academic, social/emotional, prevention, and health and wellness". This is exactly what our founder set out to do for orphans & other vulnerable children through Hope Shines 8 short years ago.

About Hope Shines:

Hope Shines is a supplemental education and health resource that improves the lives of vulnerable children in Rwanda. So far in 2016, we have expanded our Rwandan staff team, opened a new learning center,  enrolled 35 new children in our programs, further developed our programs, created stronger measuring tools to better show our impact, initiated a vegetable greenhouse social enterprise (for long term, sustainable program funding), and brought HOPE and LOVE back into children's lives that need it most! Help us grow by expanding our impact with struggling youth and families in Rwanda! Any donation is appreciated!
