Thank you so much for visiting my fundraiser page! It means so much to me that you would consider donating to this worthy cause. I know money is tight for everyone; disposable income isn't easy for anyone to come by these days, so the fact that you're willing to spare what you can to help these people in need (and contribute to me being able to go on the trip to help them even more!) is incredibly heartwarming and deeply appreciated.
I need to be one of the first 40 participants in Hope to Haiti to raise $5,000 in order to qualify for the trip to Jacmel. Please - tell everyone you know to visit my page and see if they'd like to contribute something, every penny matters! None of the money donated will go toward my travel expenses, I am completely (and willingly) responsible for the cost. You can visit my profile page here on Crowdrise to read more about my past volunteer experiences. Below is a brief description of what Random Acts, a division of The Art Department and the charity behind this fundraiser, has done in Haiti and will be doing this June:
In 2010, we traveled to Jacmel, Haiti, where we rebuilt a dental clinic, refurbished an orphanage with earthquake damage and took down 1600 tools to supply a carpentry school that we helped start.
That was a great beginning.
In 2011, we’re going back!
To build a green multipurpose community center that will:
- Feed and house some of Haiti’s hungry and homeless children
- Educate the children of Jacmel
- Serve as a microlending center
To construct a sustainable fish farm that will:
- Provide a reliable source of protein for the children living in the community center
Now here is what the organization has tasked us with:
THE ART DEPARTMENT wrote -
In June 2011, Misha Collins, Matt Cohen and the Random Acts team will take a group of 40 lucky people to Jacmel, Haiti to help build a refuge for some of Haiti’s hungry and homeless children.
You can be a part of this unique and exciting experience by raising donations for Random Acts. The first 40 people to raise $5,000 each will earn the opportunity to be a part of bringing Hope to Haiti.
You will have the rare opportunity to make a tangible connection to your donation by immersing yourself in another culture and watching the product of your daily labor become something that will make a difference in people’s lives. You will make connections and build friendships with the people in the community that you are helping. You may even leave Haiti with a new perspective on your own life and circumstances.
In order to participate, you must raise your funds through Crowdrise at this project page.
Register your profile, then click the Join the Team button to get started.
Please note: travel expenses to Haiti are not included in the $5,000 donation and will be the responsibility of each volunteer participant. Travel must be coordinated through Random Acts.
All participants must be 18 years or older.
Once your $5,000 been raised, your trip eligibility is non-transferable.
For all the details, FAQs and more, go to our Hope to Haiti page at therandomact.org/hopetohaiti.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me personally. I'm also able to accept donations in the form of cash and personal check, but if you donate here online it will automatically generate a receipt for tax purposes.
Again - thank you so much just for visiting my page! I am truly touched by your support and willingness to help me, but especially your willingness to help the people of Jacmel, Haiti.
