The Random Act is again going to Jacmel in Haiti to continue building a community center to aid the victims of the catastrophic 2010 earthquake.
The center will provide shelter and education for the many children displaced by the damage in Haiti. All contributions go directly to relief efforts to purchase tools, supplies and other necessary items to complete the community center.
Every dollar counts, and every dollar is appreciated. Please donate!
The media has since forgotten about Haiti, and aid and relief efforts have dropped off significantly. Already one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere when the earthquake happened, the country is still suffering from the disaster and continues to be in dire need of help. The Random Act has pledged to continue its efforts to help Haiti fully recover and we invite you to be a part of that support.
What's the plan?
My goal is to raise $5,000 by May 18th (2 weeks) to support their actions. It is also a little social experiment to see how receptive my Facebook network is to donating online.
All donations go directly to the charity.
It is a great cause and a fantastic opportunity to help people that are still struggling. One less Starbucks, bubble tea or beer will make a difference in someone else's life, so why not?!
Why am I involved?
I directed my dance crew and studio's efforts towards fundraising for Haiti in 2010, but I feel that it is time I reach out and do more in 2012.
If I meet my fundrasing goal within the time frame, I will have the opportunity to travel to Haiti and support the relief efforts hands-on. All flight, accomodation and living costs will be out of my own pocket. So ALL your money is going directly to help the people of Haiti!
Let's not forget the people of Haiti.
Thank you in advance for your participation and donations.
Now is the time to act!
You'll find the donate button on the upper right of the screen!
What are you waiting for? =)
RANDOM ACTS wrote -
Two years ago, after a destructive and devastating earthquake ravaged Haiti, Random Acts provided major funding for a journey to Jacmel to assist in rebuilding homes, communities and lives. During our initial visit, a dental clinic was reconstructed, an orphanage was refurbished and a carpentry school with 1600 donated tools was founded.
Later, in 2011, Misha Collins and the Random Acts team returned. This time, we were joined by a group of 22 enthusiastic volunteers. For the volunteers, work began before they arrived in Haiti. To secure their spot, each person expended vast amounts of energy and determination to raise at least $5000. What a great accomplishment! The monies raised from those donations, and donations from our amazing supporters, provided the tools and supplies used during our mission.
While there, the volunteers and staff opened their hearts and arms to demonstrate the true power of kindness. They worked in the fierce heat of the Haitian sun to aid in the construction of a multi-purpose community center; a facility that will provide shelter, as well as educate and feed homeless and orphaned children. Plus, our team members participated in creative and recreational activities with the children, such as arts, crafts and games.
But, our work isn’t done. That's why we're going back in 2012.
