EVENT DATE Aug 29, 2014
Just about one year ago, I adopted a tiny kitten from an abandoned dairy barn up the road from the farm I lived at in VT. That little kitten has traveled back home to Michigan with me and now down to North Carolina. Living in a rural area with a big yard and lots of interesting wildlife Juniper quickly became an indoor/outdoor cat and has been spending part of her daytime life exploring the yard and woods around our home for the past few months. I never dreamed my smart little kitty bean would be one of the foolish lot that gets stuck up a tree. Earlier this week Beany didn't come home at dinner like always, I looked for her in all her favorite hiding spots: under the porch, under the house, under her chicken tree... to no avail and resigned to leave her out for the night. Next morning I went back to check under her favorite chicken tree and heard a little tiny meow, after some time looking I found that little face looking down at me from about 25 ft up the huge tree next to her chicken tree. We tried all our best efforts to get her down, human ladders, kitty ladders, bribes, and lastly a professional tree climber over the approximate 48 hours she spent up there. Before the tree climber could even begin going up June got spooked by his rope and jumped superman style straight out of the tree then fell 25 ft like a rock. She broke her femur in two places and the only choice was to surgically set the bone or to amputate. Our vet decided the bone was fixable and that June would be able to recover since she is a young healthy cat.
June is recovering from surgery at home now and seems to be in good spirits as long as we get to snuggle a lot! She is eating and sleeping and is overall a very good patient! Over the next couple months she will have follow up visits and x-rays and eventually get the pin that is holding her leg straight removed in an outpatient procedure. The "date" of the fundraiser is the date June Bean is supposed to get the pin removed from her leg if her x-rays say her leg has set properly. Please keep her in your thoughts!
Ok folks, so it comes down to me trying to make a go of being a farmer and being as broke as I've ever been. While the loan was from the bank of mom I'd like to pay it back as quickly as possible any the goal of the fundraiser would cover almost the full cost of her medical expenses at what I expect the final total to be. Any and all funds will help!
